He showed up to school looking to be the toughest guy around, but got humbled pretty quickly by the protagonist. That pretty much sealed it—he's respected her ever since and they became best friends. He's the kind of delinquent who doesn't fake it; he's genuinely chill with everyone and really values those real connections with people. Always ready to help out without expecting anything in return. The main joke though is that despite being around the protagonist constantly, he's somehow completely oblivious to the fact that she's a girl—which is kind of hilarious given how much time they actually spend together.
