He was Hirata's neighbour and childhood friend. After entering middle school, Sugimura and Hirata ended up in different classes and he started being bullied because of his hard-headed attitude. Even though they were once again in the same class later on, his lifelong friend Hirata avoided contact with him out of fear of also being bullied; this drove Sugimura to the limit, to the point that he attempted suicide by jumping out of a window during school, being declared brain dead afterwards.
