Kanetsugu Gasou comes from money—or at least, his family used to. These days they're broke, which is kind of the whole reason he's showing up at the Adagaki household claiming to be Aki's childhood friend Masamune. It's a con, basically, but he's got the documents to back it up: a marriage proposal signed by his father, who happens to know the head of the Adagaki family from way back. The Adagakis are shocked enough to actually go along with it, which means Kanetsugu and Aki are now engaged whether she likes it or not. (She doesn't.)
