Aoi's relationship with mountains is complicated. Years back, she and Hinata made a promise to climb together, but a bad fall from a playground structure left her with a broken arm and a lasting fear of heights. She pivoted hard toward indoor life after that—cooking, sewing, reading, the works. Then Hinata showed up again at the start of high school and basically pulled her back toward the mountains whether she liked it or not.
She's the quiet type, good at deflecting hangouts with classmates by coming up with plausible excuses. But there's a competitive streak under all that shyness. Hinata knows how to wind her up just enough to make her push harder, which Aoi both resents and kind of respects. When it comes to "girl power" stuff, she's a bit self-conscious about it, but she's hardly lacking—especially on the cooking front, where staying home actually paid off. She can handle meal prep on the trail without breaking a sweat.
Mountaneering was totally new to her at first. Complete blank slate. But once she started going out with Hinata, she got curious enough to do her own research online, and it stuck. The interest grew from there.
As for Hinata herself, Aoi didn't warm up to her immediately. When they first reconnected, Aoi was skeptical and wasn't really enjoying the time together, even if she kept it hidden. Time changed that though. The more they were around each other, the more Aoi noticed Hinata's perceptiveness and genuine friendliness, and her opinion shifted.
