Eight is an orange nursing robot created by the Sanzenin Technology Division, though he's best known for being hopelessly in love with his creator, Shiori. He's built to be tough—waterproof, equipped with nursing missiles and rocket boosters—but his real weakness is his hair-trigger temper. Call him ugly and he'll snap. Lose a fight and he'll obsess over revenge, though fans often note that his vengeful streak is really just his twisted way of trying to impress Shiori and prove himself worthy of her attention.
The problem is that Shiori treats him like garbage. She dismisses him constantly, even telling him she made a "mistake" putting him down for incineration instead of regular trash disposal. Despite this treatment, Eight keeps coming back, and eventually—after confessing his feelings—he actually becomes her boyfriend.
Eight gets upgraded before almost every major encounter. Over the course of the story, he progresses from his base form to v8.1, then v8.2, v8.3, and beyond, with each upgrade reflecting his latest defeat or change in circumstances. In the anime adaptation, the upgrade progression is slightly different: he steals a control chip from Nursing Robot Nine to become v8.1, then reaches v8.2 as his second form, though he gets reverted back to v8.1 after losing to Yukiji and Hayate.
