France is a country overflowing with pride and an obsession with beauty. His history's been a rollercoaster—periods of strength followed by collapse, then recovery, then decline again, a pattern that's pretty much stuck around.
His relationship with England is complicated and goes back centuries. France was basically a teenager when England was still a kid, which he absolutely took advantage of—teasing and picking on him became his favorite pastime. They bicker constantly over the pettiest stuff imaginable, but when it actually matters, they can work together without too much drama.
Italy sees France as his big brother and treats him that way, even though they fought on opposite sides during WWII. Italy's pretty affectionate about it, but Romano? Can't stand him. Romano actually hid behind Germany just to avoid France, which says something since he can't stand Germany either. On the other hand, France basically raised Seychelles and plays an older brother role to Monaco as well.
Personality-wise, France doesn't hold back. He's flirty and dirty-minded, constantly making passes and suggestive comments to basically anyone. His actual interests are more refined though—wine, singing, farming, fashion design, sketching. He loves wandering through art museums and high-end boutiques whenever he gets the chance. He refuses to learn English out of principle, convinced his own language is objectively the most beautiful one. He's also surprisingly open about his fears: computers freak him out, and he's genuinely terrified of Germany, Switzerland, Russia, and England when he's really angry.
His name's pretty literal—"Francis" is basically French for "Frenchman," and "Bonnefoy" comes from "bonne-foi," meaning "good faith." The creator originally planned to call him Jean Epine before switching things up.
