The primary antagonist of the first anime series—he shows up in every episode. He runs security at the Maximum Security Black Wing Prison and has Hina Saotome locked up there.
Physically, he's a striking guy: fair-skinned, conventionally handsome, with a nasty scar running from his right chest down his side. He wears a sharp black military-style uniform and carries himself with this seductive intensity, though his actual personality is cold and ruthless.
Before Hina arrived, he was genuinely a decent guard who looked out for the inmates. Most prisoners still like him fine—it's mainly Hina and Higa Yamato who have a problem with him. His subordinates trust him completely. Every two weeks without fail, he leaves the prison to visit his mother, who's in a coma at the hospital.
His backstory explains a lot. His father died when he was young, leaving him to grow up with his mother, who constantly had different men around. That loneliness made him act out as a kid. Everything changed when a motorcycle accident nearly killed him and his mother gave him a massive blood transfusion to save his life—the gesture hit him hard. He learned she'd been grinding away just to pay off debts, and he decided right then to take care of her. He paid off everything she owed.
He moved in with Yuzuru Kougetsu after his mother remarried him, and for a while the three of them were doing okay. Then Kougetsu's company collapsed following an embezzlement scandal, and Hina ended up being the one accused. That's when his resentment toward her solidified.
Growing up rough gave him serious advantages: he could fight and ride motorcycles like a pro long before he ever became a guard.
