Kurgan comes from an exceptionally rare tribe where having multiple arms is the norm—though even among them, his eight arms made him genuinely exceptional. As a young man, he proved himself by defending his clan's territory against a Vollachian lord's ambitions and elevating their status in the process. This launched him toward legendary status; he eventually became the Vollachian Empire's strongest warrior, earning recognition directly from the Emperor himself.
Around four decades ago, Kurgan took Stride under his wing, nursing him back from the brink of death. The bond that formed made Kurgan his de facto bodyguard from that point on. His reputation hit a snag during a string of encounters with Wilhelm at Picoutatte. Wilhelm bested him repeatedly—brutally enough to sever two of Kurgan's arms in their clashes, though he apparently had them reattached before their final confrontation. Wilhelm ultimately defeated him for good, leaving him dying in Picoutatte's streets until Volcanica's divine intervention saved his life. He was then sent back to the Vollachian Empire.
Later, Regulus Corneas killed him during an assault on Garkla. Death didn't stick, though—the Witch Cult resurrected him as a puppet to fight on their behalf. During the Priestella battle in Arc 5, he and a similarly revived puppet of Thearesia van Astrea both appeared in combat. Garfiel Tinsel ultimately put him down for good.
