Machias has lime green eyes and messy dark blue-green hair, and he wears glasses. He's got a serious, put-together look that matches his personality.
At Thors, he sticks to the standard Class VII uniform—a buttoned-up red jacket over a black undershirt, black trousers, a belgrade blue tie, an ammunition pouch on his belt, and duck blue loafers. During the October War, he switches to a light blue Thors jacket (keeping the rest mostly the same) with a red armband on his right sleeve. After graduation and joining the Inspectorate, he wears their formal uniform: a sharp jacket with black and white sections on the front, a white shirt, red tie, and a larger ammunition pouch moved to the other side.
He carries an orbal shotgun with a wooden stock and pump, decorated with inlaid white engravings.
Character
Machias is driven—almost obsessively so. He's a straight-A student who holds himself and everyone around him to impossibly high standards. He's still salty about Emma Millstein beating him on the Thors entrance exam, which kicked off a friendly rivalry that pushes him to keep competing.
His defining trait, though, is his hatred of the noble class. He comes from a difficult family background and never shuts up about how corrupt and unchanging the aristocracy is. He's especially hostile toward other noble students, particularly Jusis Albarea—which makes for some pretty explosive arguments. But as the series goes on, he realizes not every noble is a self-serving jerk. By the time he's close with Rean, Laura, and even Jusis, he's learned that character matters way more than bloodline. It's a big deal for him.
Academically, he's intense. Even during the Erebonian Civil War, he keeps up with his coursework because falling behind isn't an option in his mind. He's quick to anger and gets into heated debates about politics, academics, and social stuff regularly. Like his father, he's a coffee guy—needs it after a rough day.
