Ryuushuko is the Tou family's spirit beast and basically Sengyoku's personal guardian. He's fiercely protective of her—anyone who even thinks about hurting her has to deal with him first. The two are genuinely close, which fans often note as one of the more wholesome relationships in the series. Beyond that protective streak, Ryuushuko comes across as pretty friendly overall, though he's obviously not someone you want as an enemy.
