Ushio is the daughter of Tomoya and Nagisa. She's known as a well-behaved, curious kid who doesn't quite fit the typical mold for girls her age. Tomoya's actually noted this—most girls want dolls, but when he takes her on a trip and buys her a robot instead, she becomes totally fascinated with it. This threw him off at first, but he eventually realized she's genuinely interested in robots, which is why he sometimes calls her "boyish." She's also into baseball, something her grandfather Akio got her hooked on by teaching her to imitate famous players.
She calls her grandfather "Akki" and addresses her grandmother Sanae by her first name rather than any formal title.
In the early story arc, Ushio stays with her grandparents for a stretch. That's where she really picks up Akio's baseball obsession and learns Sanae's strict household rules—including the oddly specific discipline that you only cry in the bathroom.
