Kasumi, a classmate of Ai's, accidentally photographed Hitomi while shooting the moon through a telephoto lens. She later bragged to a friend about catching Cat's Eye on film—and Ai, overhearing this, immediately panicked. Determined to expose the phantom thief's identity, Kasumi decided to stake out Cat's Eye's next target with her camera in hand. She caught a glimpse of Cat's Eye from behind and thought the figure matched Hitomi perfectly. Her suspicions only deepened when she spotted Hitomi hanging around with some punk kids in the park.
Asatani picked up on Kasumi's nosiness and decided to bring her into the loop. Using the excuse that her father was away and it wasn't safe to be home alone, Kasumi managed to get herself invited to stay the night at the Kisugi house, hoping to catch them in the act. But the sisters were too clever for that. They pulled off a convincing charade that kept Hitomi seemingly present at home while the Cat's Eye operation went down elsewhere, leaving Kasumi's suspicions frustrated.
