Kyurem is a gray and blue dragon-like Pokémon with a distinctly asymmetrical design that hints at past damage. Its blue head features yellow eyes without pupils, a pair of pointed horns, and a bioluminescent yellow crest. Three teeth jut from each side of its frozen jaw. The body is covered in lines running across the neck, limbs, and tail, with oddly shaped blue wings that sprout from its arms—these wings are thought to store cold air and can break to reveal gray tendril-like appendages underneath. The right side of Kyurem's body looks noticeably shorter and worn; its right horn and wing are smaller, and its head has a jagged spike near the jaw on that side only. The legs are slender with three ice-like claws on each foot, and the tail—possibly some kind of broken turbine—has three blue conical spikes at the tip.
Kyurem generates freezing energy internally, but when that energy leaks out, its body actually freezes solid. It maintains itself by staying frozen, which keeps its cells stable. The lore claims Kyurem is stronger than both Reshiram and Zekrom, though that power is suppressed by the extreme cold. It can supposedly revert those dragons back into their Dragon Stone forms using its tendril appendages. Old legends paint it as hostile, allegedly eating anything—humans or Pokémon—caught outside at night. Some folklore suggests it's not even from this world. The anime treats it as one of the strongest Dragon-types alive, capable of freezing entire regions solid. Interestingly, Kyurem has a taste for Kyurem Treats made by a trainer named Snacksworth, who encountered it long ago.
Forms
Kyurem can merge with Reshiram or Zekrom using Absofusion to become White Kyurem or Black Kyurem respectively. It retained genetic material from both dragons, allowing these fusions. When merged, Kyurem also adopts that dragon's philosophy—truth for Reshiram, ideals for Zekrom. Notably, in the movie Kyurem vs. The Sword of Justice, it can shift between both forms without actually fusing, channeling their power from within itself instead.
White Kyurem
White Kyurem blends Kyurem's design with Reshiram's. Its torso becomes slimmer, legs stay similar but shorter with the middle toe turning to ice, and icy squares cover the shoulders—each with two pins that plug into holes along the tail (which resembles Reshiram's but stays connected via gray skin bridges). The arms thin out with rings and three claws, small wings sprouted between the rings, and the right arm remains frozen. Its neck straightens thanks to Reshiram's influence. The ice binding its upper jaw melts away, finally allowing it to move its mouth. During Overdrive mode, tubes extend from its back to its tail, and fiery highlights appear on the wing tips and tail.
White Kyurem wields both fire and ice, can fly with its wings and jet-like tail, and fundamentally believes in truth. It fights to protect a future built on truth for both humans and Pokémon.
Black Kyurem
Black Kyurem similarly merges Kyurem with Zekrom. Its torso bulks up, legs remain short with icy middle toes, and the tail (oriented vertically rather than horizontally) connects the same way. The shoulders carry those plugging ice squares, the arms become muscular and Zekrom-like but wingless, and the left arm stays frozen. The lower jaw's ice breaks away here, letting it move freely. In Overdrive, tubes sprout down the back, parts of the right arm and rear horn glow blue, and the tail crackles with electricity.
Black Kyurem commands ice and electricity, flies via anti-gravity from its generator-like tail, and believes strongly in ideals. It fights to protect a world built on ideals for both humans and Pokémon.
