A former SAO beta tester, but she hasn't played a serious VR game before SAO. She met and learned combat from the protagonist during beta testing, and they became friends. They swore to meet again when the official game was released.
Koharu is overall a very pleasant person who is kind, caring, and thoughtful. As the game progresses she grows from being shy, scared, and uncertain, to a more confident fighter and an even more confident friend. She puts others before herself and listens to others' problems without a second thought. Koharu holds great care and affection for the Protagonist, but won't hesitate to reprimand him/her if they step out of line or say something uncalled for. She has a bright sense of humor and a great amount of empathy for other players, NPCs, and even animals and monsters, with spiders being an exception.
