Kirishima, Okubo, and Sawamura (called Komada in the English dub) are Kuwabara's crew—basically his go-to guys. Okubo's got it rough at home; his mom's constantly sick and can't work much, so he picked up a job to keep things afloat.
The three of them show up again during the Chapter Black arc, catching the Megallica concert with Kuwabara. On the way back, they run into Kiyoshi Mitarai—better known as Seaman—who attacks them with water-based monsters and nearly drowns the whole group. Kuwabara saves their butts and hauls all three of them plus Mitarai on his back to Yusuke's place before collapsing from exhaustion. When they fill Kurama in on what went down, he decides to wipe their memories of the whole thing so they won't have to carry that trauma around. Then he sends them home.
In the first character popularity poll, Kirishima landed 9th place with 219 votes.
