Freid made his way through the Great Labyrinth hidden in Schnee's Frost Caverns and managed to claim Ancient Magic for himself—though the cost was steep, with many of his followers dying to the Labyrinth's deadly trials. Once he had it, he could command Monsters at will, which he used to turn the tide of the demon-versus-humanity conflict decisively in the demons' favor.
When the heroes showed up in Tortus to fight back against the demons, Freid sent his subordinate Cattleya and a squad of Monsters to the Great Orcus Labyrinth. The heroes were training there, so Cattleya's mission was twofold: either bring them into the fold or kill them, and grab whatever Ancient Magic she could find in the process.
