Leon S. Kennedy burst onto the scene in Resident Evil 2 as a rookie cop whose first day on the job turned out to be absolutely catastrophic—we're talking zombies, bioweapons, and the collapse of an entire city. He'd just transferred to the Raccoon City Police Department when Umbrella's experiments went sideways in the worst possible way. Despite being thrown into a nightmare scenario with zero preparation, Leon keeps his head and figures out what's really going on, even when nobody else is cooperating. He might come across as green, but he's sharp enough to piece things together and stubborn enough to survive.
That first day also introduces him to Claire Redfield (Chris's younger sister), a mysterious woman named Ada Wong, and the Birkin family—scientist Annette and her daughter Sherry. Things get worse when Leon realizes that Sherry's father, William Birkin, has injected himself with his own creation: the G-virus. What follows is pure chaos as Birkin transforms into a grotesque monster that tears through everything in its path.
By Resident Evil 4, set six years later, Leon's a completely different person. He's matured considerably and been recruited by the U.S. secret service, which is where his reputation as someone who always gets the job done really starts to show. His mission? Track down and extract the President's daughter. He pulls it off, establishing himself as one of the most reliable agents around.
The DarkSide Chronicles fills in some gaps from 2002, showing Leon working with his former partner Jack Krauser before things got complicated between them. During this operation, Leon learns that Javier has the T-Veronica virus—and it's infected Javier's daughter—while also debriefing Krauser about the events of Resident Evil 2 and Code: Veronica.
