A tall, glasses-wearing student with an intimidating look—mostly thanks to the scar running across his forehead and left eyebrow. He's genuinely smart and rich, with a beautiful, youthful mother who's his favorite cook.
Chiba became a recluse after getting into trouble with a gang early on. Adachi and Shinigawa actually beat up the gang for him, though neither realized they were the ones causing his withdrawal in the first place. That helped him get over his initial fears, but when they forgot about him, it crushed him all over again. He refused to go back to school or take exams, claiming he was afraid to sit near Shinigawa—but Shinigawa saw right through it and realized he just wanted Adachi's attention. She basically forced his hand by saying she'd stop visiting if he didn't attend and take the tests.
One weird thing about him is the unintentional glare he does constantly, which causes a lot of misunderstandings. As for academics, he's nearly perfect, always scoring 100 on tests. There was one exception in chapter 67 where he got a 94 on a math test—two points below Shinigawa, which probably bothered him more than he'd admit.
In the later chapters, it becomes clear he has a crush on Makoto. Everyone around him seems to notice it except Makoto himself.
