Nation's name: 臺灣 (Taiwan) | Republic of China
Capital: Taipei
Language: Mandarin
Birthday: October 25th
National flower: Plum Blossom
Height: 150cm (4'9")
Age: UnknownTaiwan, officially the Republic of China, is a fashionable teenage girl with a strong personality who favors traditional qipao. She's got long brown hair with a distinctive curly ahoge, and she's best known among fans for being one of the few characters who hasn't made it into the anime yet—though she did get her speaking debut in the eighth Hetalia character CD, which centered on China.
Her exact relationship with the other Asian nations remains somewhat ambiguous. In one sketch, she calls China a "bastard" and tells him to back off Japan, seemingly favoring the latter. But on that character CD where she first spoke, she addresses China as "sensei" and sounds pretty friendly with him, which muddied the waters considerably. Fans speculate she was raised by China and that he, Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong function as her older siblings of sorts.
Personality-wise, she's generally upbeat but has a sharp tongue and a short temper to match. She's also prone to worrying—the anxious type who can't help overthinking things.
Her official name hasn't been locked down. Creator Hidekaz Himaruya once mentioned considering "Lin Yi Ling" or "Xiao Mei," but nothing became official. As a result, fans call her just about everything: "Mei" (plum blossom), "Meimei" (little sister), "Tai-chan," "Wanwan," or "Wan-chan"—most of the latter deriving from Taiwan itself.
