Diego Brando is Dio's alternate universe counterpart in Steel Ball Run, Part 7 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Most people just call him Dio.
He's a professional jockey from England competing in the cross-continental Steel Ball Run race. On the surface, he's got a lot in common with the original Dio—similar looks, same ruthless personality—but his backstory is different. Diego grew up among homeless people after his mother pulled him from a river as an infant. Once his talent as a jockey became obvious, he was adopted into a noble family and given every advantage. Despite being raised with genuine care and affection, he's fundamentally cold-blooded and will go to almost any length to come out on top.
His rivalry with Gyro Zeppeli kicks off early in the race. After losing the first stage to him, Diego takes it personally and treats Gyro as his sworn enemy from that point on.
