Luke is a Makai Alchemist—basically the magical ammunition expert of his organization. He's best known for his disapproval of Sword's reckless approach to fighting Horrors and their habit of getting way too cozy with humans. Luke handles the practical side of things with custom firearms loaded with special magical rounds, including a particularly useful one that conjures rain capable of wiping memories of Horror encounters from witnesses.
The tragic part of his backstory is that Luke was actually being groomed to become a Makai Knight, the elite warrior class. That all fell apart when his father, Knight, murdered his mother. Luke walked away from the role after that, and it's clearly shaped who he is now—more focused on alchemy and keeping his distance than on the frontline fighting his training prepared him for.
