Makimura Shiori is a prodigy engineer working for Mikado Hyper Energy Electronics as Chief of Development for their Humanoid Nursing and Battlefield Weapons Department, plus the Advanced Technology Development Division. She specializes in computers and mecha design—her team's responsible for creating Nursing Robot Eight and most of the mechas that show up throughout the series.
She's genuinely brilliant at what she does. There's even a running joke that she's capable of designing functioning mechas while basically half-asleep, which kind of says everything you need to know about her skill level.
