Annasui's childhood obsession with taking things apart—pocket watches, his neighbor's car, basically anything he could get his hands on—made him an awkward kid. Years later, he came home to find his girlfriend cheating on him. He didn't handle it well. He methodically dismantled both her and her lover, which earned him a twelve-year sentence for first degree murder.
He crosses paths with Jolyne after F.F. seeks him out for help. Annasui had apparently heard stories about her beforehand, and the combination of those tales and what seems like genuine obsession has him offering to be her bodyguard. He's motivated by what can only be described as intense love for her. Once he commits to protecting Jolyne, he sticks with it completely—even willing to put himself on the line to keep her safe.
