Reika's got this weird curse—bad luck radiates off her and lands on everyone nearby. People naturally keep their distance because of it, which she's kind of okay with since she blames herself for the accident that put her boyfriend Glen in a coma. She's convinced her misfortune is what caused it, so she isolates herself as a way to protect people.
Sirius is basically the exception to the rule. He's got genuine feelings for her and actually seeks her out instead of running away like everyone else does.
