Hinamori is the kind of person who genuinely gets along with almost everyone—she's upbeat, easygoing, and has that natural friendliness that draws people in. That said, she's also pretty trusting to a fault, and her impulsiveness sometimes gets the better of her judgment. Her biggest weakness is probably her devotion to her former captain, Sōsuke Aizen; she became a shinigami specifically to serve under him, and even when everything went wrong, she struggled to accept that he'd deliberately betrayed Soul Society.
She grew up in Junrinan with Tōshirō Hitsugaya, and while he was kind of a bratty kid insisting he'd protect her, she found it endearing and treated him more like a little brother she had to look after. They stayed close throughout their lives, and she still calls him Shiro-chan. When she entered the shinigami academy, Hinamori was a natural at kidō and eventually met Kira and Renji, both of whom became lifelong friends. The three of them ended up as lieutenants together in the 5th Division under Aizen and Gin Ichimaru, though Kira and Renji later transferred elsewhere. Hinamori stayed put and clawed her way up to lieutenant—no small feat, as Hitsugaya would later point out.
Her zanpakutō, Tobiume, is a kidō-type blade shaped like a branching rod. When she activates its shikai with the command "snap," it becomes a focus for her spiritual energy, letting her concentrate massive power into bursts that can crater floors and punch through walls. She can also compress that energy into huge spheres and fire them from the blade's tip. Interestingly, her name was actually changed last-minute by creator Tite Kubo; she had a completely different one during the early sketches.
