Kanata first shows up when Tasuku Ryuenji, the Star Dragon World's tournament representative, needs a substitute for the World Buddy Masters. His job at the Buddy Police leaves him too swamped to compete, so he reaches out to Kanata—only to get shut down. Kanata had already quit buddyfighting because nobody could give him a real challenge anymore. He changes his tune after Gao Mikado manages to beat him in a penalty match, though. Impressed enough to prove his competitive instincts aren't totally dead, Kanata agrees to a one-on-one fight with Tasuku. He dominates it without breaking a sweat, but somehow the battle sparks something in him. That's all it takes—his fighting spirit's back, and he's ready to represent Star Dragon World at the tournament.
