Kenzo runs a dojo situated between Goldenrod and Ecruteak City, where he serves as the Shihan. As he's gotten older, he's been thinking about stepping down and handing the role to someone else—his granddaughter Chigusa seemed like the obvious choice, but Kenzo had reservations. Her approach to Pokémon battles prioritized flashy, aesthetically pleasing moves over practical strategy, which he worried wasn't the right foundation for leading the dojo.
