Xiao Cha was a demonic cultivator from the Chaotic Star Sea who specialized in the Profound Yin Technique. He'd reached Nascent Soul stage before his own disciples, Ji Yin and Ji Xuan, betrayed him and sealed him away in some ancient ruins.
When Han Li and his crew showed up exploring those same ruins, they triggered a trap—and that's when Xuan Gu made his move, hijacking Qu Hun's body to make an escape.
Later, in the Void Heaven Palace, Xuan Gu switched tactics. He dangled Nine-Bend Spirit Ginseng pills in front of Han Li as bait to get him to join forces, while also pushing him to become a disciple of the Ji Yin Ancestor. The guy was sharp though—he basically sat back and let everyone else fight over the cauldron in the inner hall while he plotted whatever he had planned.
