Matakara Asamine is Arajin Tomoshibi's childhood friend and a first-year high school student. He's known for being genuinely friendly and caring, which makes his role as one of Minato Kai's strongest fighters a bit of a contradiction—but that's pretty much his whole thing.
Matakara became a delinquent mainly because he and Arajin shared a dream of becoming Honki people, and the gang life gave him a way to test his strength against real opponents. It's less about the delinquency itself and more about what it lets him do.
As a kid, he was a crybaby who constantly needed Arajin to bail him out. They'd train together with this Honki person goal, and even after Arajin moved away, the dream never left him. What did stick with him, though, is the fear that Arajin started to resent him for being weak back then. That worry pushed Matakara to become as strong as possible—partly to prove something to Arajin, and partly to make sure he'd never be that helpless kid again.
