Tikal is the daughter of Chief Pachacamac, from the same ancient tribe that Knuckles descended from. She's best known for her appearances in Sonic Adventure and its sequel, though she only shows up as a bonus character in the second game.
Thousands of years before the series begins, Tikal clashed with her father over his aggressive expansionism. While Pachacamac wanted to conquer neighboring lands, she befriended Chaos and a group of Chao at the Master Emerald shrine—creatures that took to her because of her gentle nature. When she tried to convince her father to leave the shrine alone, he ignored her completely and attacked it anyway, which enraged Chaos in the process.
Tikal managed to stop him by reciting a poem her grandmother had taught her, which somehow unlocked the Master Emerald's power. She used it to seal both herself and Chaos inside the emerald, trapping them there for thousands of years.
In the modern day, Eggman smashes the Master Emeralds and accidentally frees both Tikal and an angry Chaos. Tikal ends up helping Sonic and the gang take down Chaos once and for all, then leaves alongside Chaos.
