Frank Archer is an anime-exclusive character who comes across as composed and levelheaded—until you realize he's genuinely drawn to violence and warfare. His whole thing is chasing battlefield glory as a shortcut to military advancement. He's calculated about it too, always making sure his superiors notice him and that his actions get some attention. As the series goes on, he gets increasingly invested in what the military's actually working on behind the scenes: homunculi, chimeras, the Philosopher's Stone, and other experimental projects. The deeper he gets into that world, the more his interests shift from just looking good in front of command to understanding what these things actually are.
