Yu Ziyuan was the wife of Jiang Fengmian, leader of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect, and mother to Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli. She's often called Madam Yu or by her nickname, the Violet Spider—a name that hints at her reputation as a serious, formidable cultivator capable of intimidating people just by being known.
Her personality was cold and assertive, which didn't win her many fans. She had a particularly poor relationship with Wei Wuxian, who she blamed for most of the misfortunes that hit her family. She'd regularly complain about him to Jiang Fengmian, making her displeasure toward him very clear.
