Canti is a medical robot whose head is literally a television screen—manufactured by Medical Mechanica before Atomsk hijacked him as an escape route. Haruko broke his TV head early on, and instead of discarding him, she recruited him as her assistant. In practice, he's mostly good for washing dishes and fetching drinks, though he clearly wishes he was more useful.
What makes Canti interesting is how genuinely human his emotional responses are. He's genuinely embarrassed about his shattered head and spends time searching for the broken pieces to reassemble it. He even wears a box on the back of his head to hide the damage out of shame. Despite this, he's unfailingly polite—he actually tried to help Lieutenant Kitsurubami even after she attacked him.
The weird part: Atomsk can manifest through Canti, with Naota serving as the catalyst. When this happens, Atomsk's symbol appears on Canti's screen—it's basically a corrupted version of the kanji for "adult." The same symbol shows up when Naota "swings the bat" in Full Swing, and a variation using the kanji for "child" appears when Canti gets absorbed by the terminal core in FLCLimax.
Mamimi is convinced Canti is an angel, especially after he wears a halo and fake wings (originally Haruko's). She starts calling him "Lord Canti" after a video game character, and the name sticks with the rest of the cast. Oh, and he apparently eats curry using his "mouth" somehow—nobody really explains how that works.
