Giant is a minor character from "The Punchy Pokémon" who was set to compete in the P1 Grand Prix alongside his Hitmonlee. Team Rocket, desperate to enter the tournament and claim the prize money, realized they lacked a Fighting-type Pokémon—a problem they quickly solved by spotting Giant first. They tackled him, stripped him of his clothes, tied him up, and locked him in a bathroom stall, then stole his Hitmonlee for themselves.
Disguised as Giant, Team Rocket made it all the way to the finals using the stolen Pokémon. Ash saw through the deception when he faced them—James's head poking out from the disguise made it obvious who they really were—and defeated them decisively with his Primeape. What happened to Giant after his brush with Team Rocket's theft remains a mystery.
