Yui is a 17-year-old high school student who's never been great at talking to people. Instead of opening up face-to-face, he channels his feelings into haiku—poetry that he regularly shares on social media. It's pretty much his main way of expressing what's going on in his head.
He works part-time at Hidamari, a welfare facility, stepping in to help out where his mother would otherwise be involved. Pretty much everyone around him—friends, classmates, people he knows—calls him "Cherry" because his last name is Sakura, which literally means cherry blossom in Japanese. The nickname stuck, and it's kind of become his thing.
