Kaori Miyazono is one of the main protagonists of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. A violinist with a fiercely independent streak, she's the one who pulls Kousei Arima back into the piano world after he'd given up following his mother's death.
She's free-spirited and unpredictable—sometimes short-tempered, occasionally passive-aggressive—but her chaotic energy usually comes from genuinely wanting to support the people around her. That said, she prefers to handle her own problems solo.
Kaori's not technically clean on the violin. She ignores sheet music when she feels like it, plays at whatever tempo feels right rather than what's written, and generally doesn't stick to the rulebook. But she's genuinely gifted. One of the judges at Towa Hall even noted that her raw ability outclassed everyone else competing. What makes her special is that she prioritizes emotion and artistry over mechanical perfection—she plays what she feels, and it works. That unpolished, emotionally honest approach is what reignites Kousei's love for music and forces him to rethink what kind of musician he wants to be.
She can also play melodica and has some piano experience, though violin's clearly her main instrument.
