Rinne's mother was a beautiful prodigy who earned her Platinum license—a distinction reserved for shinigami who've purified over 10,000 spirits—and became known as "the Legendary Shinigami Maiden." She vanished when Sabato pawned her scythe around the time Rinne was just learning to walk. Her scythe resurfaces in the story when Rinne discovers it in chapter 313, and she makes a brief appearance herself in chapter 314.
