Signum first appears in A's as a member of the Wolkenritter, a group of magical knights serving Hayate Yagami. When Vita gets cornered while trying to steal Nanoha's Linker Core, Signum and Shamal rush to her aid. The Wolkenritter's superior firepower gives them the advantage—Signum even manages to snap Fate's staff in half—though they ultimately secure what they came for before the skirmish ends.
What drives Signum is her absolute loyalty to Hayate. As the squad's leader, she's the one pushing the Wolkenritter to keep stealing Linker Cores to fill the Book of Darkness, racing against the tome's gradual destruction of Hayate's own magic. The whole operation exists because Hayate herself forbids them from letting anyone get hurt for her sake, which puts Signum in the uncomfortable position of defying her mistress to save her. She maintains the facade of being Hayate's distant relative while keeping her real mission hidden from everyone.
Signum comes across as stoic and distant—old habits from her time as a purely functional knight. But Shamal observes that she's changed since meeting Hayate. She smiles now. She treats the Wolkenritter like family because Hayate did. The respect is mutual too; during their repeated clashes, Signum genuinely admires Fate's strength, even as they oppose each other.
By StrikerS, a decade later, Signum has fully integrated into the TSAB as sub-commander of the Lightning Squad under Fate, who herself reports to Hayate. She avoids training the younger recruits, claiming her old-school knight approach—get close and tear enemies apart—doesn't translate well to instruction. Still, when Erio asks her to spar near the end of the season, she accepts.
During the Saint's Cradle incident, Signum faces Knight Zest Grangeitz and his device Agito. Even with an unison boost from Reinforce Zwei, the fight ends in a stalemate. They continue battling inside the Capital City Defense Forces headquarters, where Signum finally wins. With his last breath, Zest asks her to look after Agito and Lutecia Alpino—a request she honors by taking Agito as her new device.
