Kazuki is an energetic third year trumpet player who's tall, fit, and runs every morning. He's the type of person who's almost aggressively friendly—constantly smiling, quick to befriend people, and not really aware when he's talking too much or overstepping social boundaries. His appetite is legendary; he's always snacking, especially on baked goods.
He quickly becomes close with Kahoko after they meet, and it's largely through him that she discovers music is meant to be enjoyed rather than just performed. He eventually develops a clear crush on her, switching from calling her "Hino-chan" to the more intimate "Kaho-chan," and admits his feelings to his best friend Azuma (asking him not to tease him about it). For Kazuki, the music competition is just another way to have fun—though meeting Kahoko changes that. He went into it thinking it'd be like a festival, but she ends up teaching him things he didn't expect, and for the first time, he actually wants to win. His dream is pretty straightforward: to pamper his girlfriend, because as he puts it, "that's a man's romance!"
Before school, he was a sprinter on the track team and had perfect attendance throughout grade school and middle school. Basketball is another one of his favorite sports.
