Nanami Madobe is Windows 7's official OS-tan and the first one Microsoft actually marketed themselves. She's become something of a mascot for the operating system in Japan, where her popularity led to some genuinely cool merchandise.
Her name is pretty clever—it plays on both her voice actress Nana Mizuki and Windows 7 itself. "Madobe" literally means "by the window," and "Nanami" is basically a pun on "nana," the Japanese word for seven.
Microsoft released 7,777 premium bundles of Windows 7 Ultimate DSP in Japan that came with a Nanami theme pack, which included custom sounds and three wallpapers. In the promotional video Madobe Nanami no Windows 7 de PC Jisaku Ouen, she works as a computer store employee helping customers build their rigs.
She even has her own Twitter account, which fans have followed over the years.
