Teru is a third-year at Shiraitodai High School and Saki's older sister. After their parents split, she went to live with their mom and eventually became a seriously skilled mahjong player—the kind with a reputation for doing genuinely unsettling things at the table. She used to play casually with Saki and the family back when they were kids, but these days she completely denies Saki even exists, which has left the reason for her coldness pretty much a mystery. Saki's hoping to make it to nationals partly so she can finally see her sister again, but Teru's not having it.
As for her competitive record, Teru and Shiraitodai have dominated the past two years, sweeping both the individual and national team tournaments. They're aiming to pull off a three-peat this year.
