Shoji Yamada is the family's graphic designer and the dad of the bunch. He's genuinely attached to Chi and constantly spoils her with toys and treats—probably overthinking whether she's bored or lonely when he's not around. Of course, he's also stuck with the less fun stuff: dragging Chi to the vet, clipping her nails, that whole deal. Chi doesn't always appreciate it and occasionally treats him like the villain, though she forgets about it pretty quick. He's the typical well-meaning parent who can't help but worry and buy things to make up for it.
