Appearance
Ebern's got a tall, lean frame and short, swept-back light hair that peaks at the sides. His mask fragment—a long white piece with multiple holes—sits on his left forehead. One quirk: his right eyebrow points unnaturally upward. He dresses in a crisp, double-breasted white trench coat with shoulder straps and a black belt cinched at the waist, paired with white pants and trench boots.

Ebern's introduction is pretty bold: he materializes in Ichigo Kurosaki's bedroom out of nowhere and answers a question Ichigo wasn't asking him. When Ichigo tells him to get off the bed, Ebern refuses—so Ichigo kicks him out the window. Standing outside confused about why he got hit, Ebern finds himself facing questions about his identity. He denies being an Arrancar and tries to pass himself off as a Quincy instead, summoning a massive weapon and asking if Ichigo recognizes his power.
The fight escalates when Ichigo activates his Bankai. Ebern taunts him, convinced this is the moment the Substitute Shinigami's power ends. He performs some kind of special technique that wounds Ichigo's arm, but Ichigo recovers fast and hits him with a Getsuga Tenshō. Heavily injured and confused about why Ichigo's Bankai didn't vanish, Ebern finds himself cornered—until he escapes using a shadow technique, cryptically mentioning it only hides "the chosen ones."
