In the games, Bel is one of your childhood friends—the kind who's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but genuinely has your back. She's clumsy and kind of spacey, but that doesn't stop her from battling you repeatedly throughout your journey.
The anime takes a different angle on her character. She first shows up in "Chillarmy is a Neat Freak!?" as Professor Araragi's errand girl, tasked with delivering a badge case to Ash. True to form, her clumsiness kicks in immediately and she wipes out both Ash and Dent into a stream. What's interesting is that despite being older than Ash, she's basically just starting her Pokémon journey—her dad didn't let her become a trainer when she turned ten, so she's playing catch-up now.
Her name works on a deliberate theme: "Bel" means "white" in Slavic languages, while her English name "Bianca" carries the same meaning in Italian.
