Barone keeps people at arm's length, usually brushing them off with the excuse that they wouldn't get him anyway. He's got a softer side—he's known to comb his hair using Battle Spirits cards, which gives him an oddly feminine touch. But the moment he steps into battle, that gentleness vanishes and something much more brutal takes over.
As the mazoku ruling Rome, Barone was a powerhouse Brave user. He'd actually let the humans under his control fight for their freedom, which sounds almost fair—except nobody ever managed to beat him. When Dan suddenly appeared in the future, Barone watched him go up against Duc and immediately took notice. A human Brave user was something new, and it fascinated him enough to defy orders and seek Dan out for a fight.
Barone won that first match, but the victory felt hollow when Dan turned around and defeated Strike-Siegwurm, the spirit Barone called his friend. That stung in a way Barone wasn't expecting.
