Greiz started out as a Marleyan naval soldier, but things took a pretty significant turn when he ended up captured during a survey mission to Paradis Island following the failed operation there. Rather than staying a prisoner, he actually integrated into island life and picked up work as a waiter at a restaurant within the walls. It's one of those weird footnotes in the series—a soldier who basically became a civilian after getting stranded on the other side of the conflict.
