Her biggest issue has always been controlling her emotions. Rather than let people see that vulnerability, she put on a mean persona as a defense mechanism—which obviously backfired and left her pretty isolated. She barely went to school because of it, which only made things worse. But when high school started, she decided something had to change. Getting a part-time job at the restaurant was her way of forcing herself to interact with people and actually work on managing her feelings.
That's where she met Shintarou Tokumitsu, and honestly, he ended up being her first real friend. It's a big deal for her.
