Takagi was Tomie's high school teacher—and, crucially, her lover. When Tomie demanded he abandon his wife for her, he found himself in an impossible position. After Tomie fell from a cliff and seemed dead, Takagi saw his chance. He convinced the class to dismember her body, thinking he could finally bury the affair along with her remains.
Except Tomie came back.
The experience broke Takagi. He spent years obsessed with finding her, oscillating between helping her schemes and desperately trying to stop her. But Tomie never really cared about him—he was just a tool, useful when convenient and forgotten just as quickly. His descent into madness is pretty much the natural consequence of becoming entangled with someone who literally won't stay dead and couldn't care less if you did.
