Yuri Sakazaki is best known as the kidnapped sister from SNK's Art of Fighting series. In the first game, she's held captive by Mr. Big, a crime boss operating out of the fictional city of Southtown—which sets her brother Ryo and his buddy Robert Garcia on the entire campaign. She didn't stay a damsel for long, though. By Art of Fighting 2, she's a fully playable fighter trained in Kyokugenryu Karate by her father Takuma, and fans and critics alike praised her addition to the roster.
From there, she became a recurring fixture in The King of Fighters tournaments, appearing in nearly every mainline entry except the non-canon KOF XII. She started out competing with the Women Fighters Team before eventually joining the Art of Fighting Team alongside her family members. She's also popped up in SNK vs. Capcom crossovers and SNK Gals' Fighters.
Yuri made the jump to anime as well, reprising her kidnapped-sister role in the Art of Fighting adaptation. Her character has consistently ranked high in fan and publication polls over the years, and game journalists have noted her as a standout addition to the series—though some reviewers took issue with her exclusion from later titles.
