Riel is a scrawny Beyondian who's basically the definition of frail—the kind of person who gets mugged regularly alongside his friend Leo. Life's rough for the both of them.
At some point, Gemnemo convinces Riel to undergo a procedure that'll make him stronger. Riel goes through with it and ends up becoming a giant, which. doesn't go the way he hoped. The chaos he causes, combined with the crushing loneliness of being that size, makes him deeply regret the whole thing.
Things get worse when Gemnemo attempts to take over Riel's body, but Li Gado steps in with help from Sonic and Leo to stop him. Riel gets treated with something to reverse the gigantification process.
The twist? He ends up tiny instead—like, really tiny. But unlike before, he's actually happy about it.
